From Our Front Porch

About Us

Our Story

Melissa and I have been in and around the agriculture community our whole lives. She grew up on the farm and I grew up in rural communities always having a passion to learn about farming and ranching. Any opportunity I got as a kid to go out to any farm I took. My love for watching things grow and end up on our table has only grown since I was little.

We have been raising beef for five years now, but with our new found information on regenerative agriculture and getting the land to the highest quality soils has helped us change our purpose on the farm. Not only do better practices help us take better care of the soil, it also helps us raise a higher quality food source. Looking from a deeper perspective, it is just the way nature is intended to be. Trying to get healthier and really get a handle on where our food comes from and what is all put in it, we thought why don't we just grow it ourselves.

Sometimes we fail, but failure only leads quitting or changing to better practices, and neither one of us are quitters. We are always learning, and adapting to what is best for our operation. We love to share kindness and spread love and that is where the idea of our name came from. From Our Front Porch, our perspective on life and how were doing it. Porches are where memories are made and sunsets and sunrises are to be enjoyed!

 Our Practices

We raise our beef on a high density grazing plan, where they get moved daily or every other day and the ground is able to get a significant amount of rest so that it can be grazed multiple times during the year. We also run them on cover crops which is allowing us to put more organic matter into to soils without the need for high cost of fertilizers and chemicals.

The cows we raise for beef are not injected with hormones or antibiotics, nor do we apply pesticides to them or the ground they walk on. Our Cows have been a huge part of watching our pastures grow to the healthiest its ever been in this century.

Pigs are our new addition and they are pasture raised and grain fed because they are a non ruminant animal that needs grain in their diet. We have them rooting around and stirring up our gardens, tree lines, and using what God gave them to do what He intended them to do. They are a natural "four bottom plow".

The pigs will also graze our cover crops after the cows have been on them to eat what is left and work the soil.

Chickens have been our fun little project that turned into a great way to keep our grasses healthy and green, and keep the fly population down. They do their job to pick through the manure and keep the fly larvae from turning into fly issues. We have had a lot of fun building different chicken tractors and moving them around the farm.

The kids enjoy collecting eggs and watching the chickens grow.

Our whole chickens are Cornish-Cross and they make pretty delicious meat, not to mention it's a much healthier option than what you can buy in the freezer section at your local grocery store.
